Our Moderate Winter
Mossel Bay is known to have the 2nd best climate in the world, next to a small town in Hawaii, in the United States. This is a phrase used a lot around here and it is very very true.
Mossel Bay is truly a town that can be visited throughout the year because of our moderate weather. Most coastal holiday destinations in South Africa are very seasonal with warm summers and very cold winters. We are blessed to have this great climate here. Our summers are nice and warm, but never too warm and our winters is coolish but not cold. You will not find extreme coldness here during winter.
There is much to do here in Mossel Bay and surrounding area during winter.
Visiting our town during winter can be an awesome experience. For one, the whales make their way here during their annual migration. They come to breed in Mossel Bay’s calm and not so cold waters. This is spectacular every year and our past guests have loved watching them from their room balconies. Some of our accommodation options are located right on the beach and whales can be spotted all over lob-tailing or breaching. You can also see dolphins daily.
The Romanza is the only licensed boat that are allowed closer to the whales. They do Whale Tours where you will see the whales form close proximity. This is a very enjoyable experience and is highly recommended!
Botlierskop Private Game Reserve is about 10 minutes drive from Mossel Bay and 5 minutes drive from the Klein Brak / Reebok / Fraai Uitsig areas. Here you can do a game drive, ride elephants, walk with Lions etc. The reserve also serve meals and those need to be booked in advance.
Oudtshoorn is about 70km from us and there are many activities to do. You can view ostriches at a local ostrich farm where you can also ride an ostrich if you are under 70kg. The world reknown Cango Caves are there and this is a must see when you are in the area. You can do a guided cave tour that will take you deep in to the caves. This is very exciting!
Also in Oudtshoorn is the Cango Wildlife Ranch where you can see all the big cats as well as crocodiles. They also have opportunities for you to interact with some of these animals.
The area is also known for some of it’s wine and liqueur farms. Here you can relax whilst doing tastings.
